Death. It is a topic none of us want to think about. At least it’s not one I want to think about very often. But the truth of that matter is, I am a parent, so it is a topic I have to think about. And plan for. As morbid as it seems and feels, we as parents do need to plan for our childrens futures if the unthinkable happens. There will be bills left to pay, lives to look out for and funeral expenses to take care of. One thing that can help ease the burden is life insurance.
Life insurance policies can offer a little bit of comfort. You know the financial tasks you leave behind will be taken care of in the event of your passing. But shopping for something like life insurance can be VERY intimidating. How do you know you are getting the best coverage for the right price? I personally like sites that offer online quotes so I can compare several different places. I found a site that offers whole and term life plans. But i have to be honest with you, I never really understood the purpose of term life insurance. I mean, wouldn’t you want the most coverage you could get for the entire possibility of your life? Even if you are sick and only given a few months to live. Wouldn’t you want to know that that coverage is there should you defy the odds and live your life even longer? When my mom, who is no longer with us, was first diagnosed with cervical cancer, she was only given 10 months, tops. She beat her cancer and lived for 9 more years! I think in that case, taking out a whole life plan would have been a better idea than a term life. But that is just my opinion. I’d love to hear your thoughts on life insurance and what you prefer.
